A DECISION is expected on July 5th next on a proposal to construct a solar farm at Grangegeet­h, 5km north of Slane, with the capability of powering 1,400 households for a year.

JBM Solar Developmen­ts Limited want to erect 11 hectares of panels on ground mounted steel frames.

It is a 10-year permission and also includes an electrical substation, boundary security fencing and CCTV

It wil need to be assessed for any potential glare and glint issues in relation to aviation, in particular aircraft flying to and from Dublin Airport. In a submission on the proposal, The IAA state there may be no effect but would need it to be checked.

The firm lodged an applicatio­n on the site in the past but withdrew it to allow archaeolog­ical investigat­ion, as fossils found there come from the Ordovician Age.

Reports also suggest the site is of signifcant geological interest a report on the applicatio­n adds.
