Get in fast lane for local motor show

DROGHEDA GARAGES HOSTING BIG WEEKEND ON JUNE 16TH-18TH

-

THE Drogheda Motor Weekender arrives into town between the 16th and 18th June and it’s set to get everyone revved up!

Dealerships all across Drogheda will open up their doors to showcase their 172 range of new cars. As the festival is in each dealer’s showroom, they wanted something to bind everything together.

“Tayto has Mr Tayto, Funtasia has Buttons, Rice Krispies has Snap, Crackle and Pop and well, we decided that the Drogheda Motor Weekender needs one too.” said Mark Doran, of Jack Doran Motors.

“We are delighted to team up with 16 local schools to create our very own Mascot – you can call him Mr Brand New Drive or Brand New Drive for short.”

Collaboration with the community has always been at the core of the event from the initial show back in 2010. From using local suppliers to working with the Maritime Festival, they’ve sought engagement from the community.

Last year’s ‘Design a Car - Schools Challenge’ was a tremendous success. Each school created something truly unique and the judges found it difficult to choose a winner.

This year, the dealers have decided to host a competition with the schools to create a mascot. Elements from every school involved – all sixteen – will be included in the final design which will be built by Buí Bolg, a Wexford company, and unveiled on the Saturday of the Irish Maritime Festival.

The organisers wish to say a huge thanks to Aoife Ruane of Highlanes Gallery and her team for the public display of the artwork and research notebooks made by the local primary school students in the upper gallery. Everyone is invited to drop in to take a look at the magnificent and creative student ideas and artwork, which will remain on view to the public until Saturday 17th June.

“We are excited about this initiative which supports creative thinking, collaborative work between students, and supported by teachers, and bringing it out of schools to be seen by the public, and engaging with design, art and technology and the world of cars and commerce.“said Aoife Ruane, Director of Highlanes Gallery.

The motoring paradise promises something for everyone - the family buyer, the researcher, the sports enthusiast and the driver that is looking for that something special.

Each dealership will have its own event – from face-painting to balloon modelling; from coffees to cakes aswell as visits from Mr BND, there promises to be a lot of choice for the prospective buyer.

“We encourage everyone to come out and talk to the dealers. If you’re looking to buy a 172, you’ll get the best deals this weekend. If you’re planning ahead for 181, then you’ll get to compare different models, different features and see what’s best for you. You’ll make an informed decision later in the year.” said Hugh McCabe from McCabe Car Sales.

“We have an extra incentive for buyers. Everyone who buys with a dealer during the festival will be entered into a draw to win one of three €1,000 cash prizes. We have the balloons on order, the cars will shine, the coffee will be hot so come on down to Drogheda between 16th and 18th June.” summarised Ronan Fox of Tom Fox Car Sales.

The schools involved are St. Joseph’s National School, Mell; Cartown National School, Termonfeckin; St. Joseph’s CBS, Sundays Gate; Scoil Naisiunta Tulach Aluinn, Tullyallen; Harestown National School, Monasterboice; Callystown National School, Clogherhead; Walshestown National School, Grangebellew; Scoil Naomh Buithe, Tinure; Scoil Naomh Feichín, Termonfeckin; St. Mary’s Parish Primary School, Bryanstown; Donacarney GNS, Donacarney; St. Ita’s Special School, Crushrod Avenue; St. Oliver’s National School, Ballymakenny Road; Collon National School, Collon; Whitecross Primary School, Julianstown; and Abacas School, Congress Avenue.
