Louth Carers Support Group hosting event for National Carers Week in Drogheda
The role of family carers in Ireland is recognised when National Carers Week gets underway next Monday, June 12 with hundreds of events and activities taking part throughout the country.
The week began in 2007 and is co-ordinated by Care Alliance Ireland in partnership with ten other leading Irish charities who support family carers including The Alzheimer Society, Family Carers Ireland, Inclusion Ireland, The Irish Cancer Society, The Disability Federation, MS Ireland, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, The Irish Hospice Foundation, St Michael’s House and The Special Needs Parents Association(SPNA).
Here in Louth, the Louth Family Carers Support Group is hosting an afternoon in the Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda on Thursday June 15 from 1.45pm to 4p.m.
The afternoon is aimed at all family carers and those interested in family caring to learn about the importance of the role and the support which they can receive from the Louth Family Carers’ Support Group. It will feature talks by leading healthcare and support care speakers, exhibition stands, and information about the services and entitlements available for carers. Refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity for carers to chat in an informal setting.
The Louth Family Carers’ Support Group was founded in February 2016 with the aim of ‘ helping carers cope’. The group provides carers with the opportunity to get some time for themselves each month, to socialise and make new friends, to meet others in similar circumstances, to share ideas and information, and to advocate on issues which are important to carers.
Meetings are held at various locations around the county including Dundalk, Droghda and Ardee,
In Dundalk, meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month in Tesco Extra and anyone interested in getting involved to text or call 087-3161323.
