Trad musicians gather for a night for South Sudan at the Droichead Centre

A collection of local traditiona­l singers and musicians are holding a special concert on Friday, June 16th in the Droichead Arts Centre to raise money for famine relief in South Sudan.

The performers on the night will be singers Pat and Stuart Carolan from the Hill of Rath, The Savage Family from Termonfeck­in, comprised of four siblings who are all school going, the well-known folk group Reynardine consisting of Gareth Brady, SJ McArdle, Kevin Branigan, Aideen Morrissey and Neil McAvinia.

Also performing will be The McEvoy family from Termonfeck­in who are much in demand for playing at ceilís and set dances., The Sunday’s Gate Quartest, the acapella singing group made up of Michael Rafferty, Fiach McHugh, Declan Hoey and the Branigan Brothers.

The guest speaker on the night will be John Rynne, a local man who has spent the last 20 years working in Ethiopia and previously South Sudan and Rwanda.

John will give a short talk about his personal experience of dealing with the famine victims and refugess fleeing South Sudan. All tickets on the night will be €20. There will be a raffle during the night to raise further funding and all proceeds from the ticket sales and the raffle will be specifical­ly donated to Famine Relief for South Sudan.
