Sgt Joseph Maher and his life in County Mayo

I RAN a story recently on Joseph Maher (19), son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Maher of 50 Moran’s Terrace, who was one of 33 garda recuits to pass out at Templemore 50 years ago.

He has been assigned to duty at the Bridewell. He had also been a member of the Marian Park Sportsfield committee and the Wolfe Tones. But what became of him I asked? My thanks then to the family for filling me in. Joseph spent a few years in Dublin before he headed to County Mayo and became a sergeant.

Today, he lives in Castlebar. He married a Drogheda woman, Winnie McCann.
