DULEEK Fair Weekend is approaching fast and the village is gearing up for another great event.

This is the eighth year of the modern fair in the village and it has gone from strength to strength since it began in 2010.

This year’s fair has been brought forward to July 1st and 2nd in direct response to suggestions by locals that the weather would be more likely to co-operate with everyone’s plans.

And this year there will be more family fun, entertainment and activities for people of all ages than ever before.

There will be the usual events such as the Rex Factor Dog Show, the Duck Derby on the Nanny river and Martin The Magician aswell as other activities for kids.

There will be another world record attempt in Rock The Boat on the village green on Saturday evening, after rain washed out last year’s attempt.

As well as that there will be the All Ireland Egg Throwing Championships, the Wild Bird Photography Competition and Comedy Capers featuring live comedy sketches performed by the Limetree Theatre Group.

Egg throwing is a game that is traditionally associated with Easter. The object of the game will be to throw eggs to your teammate, whose task is to catch them without them breaking. The team that manages to win the final will become All Ireland Champions!

In the Wild Bird Photo Competition locals are invited to take photographs of birds in the local area, and then submit them to the Fair Committee. All photos will be on display on the Fair Weekend, and there will be prizes for the best ones.

There will also be several craft, business and food stalls on the village green on the Sunday showcasing local businesses and community groups, aswell as live music and performances on the main stage by local performers. As ever DJ Groggy Mac will knock out tunes from all eras and genres.

Duleek Fair Weekend has become one of the main annual events in the village and always draws large crowds, creating a great atmosphere and bringing the community together.
