Bellewstown grandparents go back to school!
IT was a trip down memory lane for many local grandparents as they returned to primary school last week to take part in a special celebration for Grandparents Day at Scoil Naomh Treasa NS, Bellewstown. THE event started with a Mass in the church at 12pm in which both grandparents and children participated.
The children’s choir, under the local choir master Peter Moore, sang during the Mass. They usually sing at Sunday 10am Mass in Bellewstown Church.
The Church was decorated with beautifully framed slogans for Grandparents and a colourful poster ‘ Our Grandparents are unbeLEAFable’.
There was a basket containing individual leaves on which was written the names of the grandparents of all the children in Scoil Naomh Treasa, Bellewstown.
Immediately after the Mass each class performed an appropriate Grandparent-themed song and the Grandparents were delighted.
All the teachers in the school deserve a special mention for this as they put so much time, effort and thoughtfulness into perfecting the children’s performance.
All of the grandparents were then invited back to the school for light refreshments and a chat.
The fun really began however when they were asked to participate in a short Samba Session with Kieran Gallagher who had been holding a session with the children earlier in the day and he was asked to give their Grandparents a try on the percussion instruments.
Kieran was delighted to oblige and all the grannies and grandads had a fantastic time.
Afterwards they all had a tea / coffee and some edibles provided by the Parents Council.
Grandparents were invited to have a picture taken with their grandchildren.
They also had the opportunity to look around the school before heading home until the next celebration.
The school were delighted to welcome grandparents who travelled from England especially for the occasion and other grandparents who travelled from County Clare for the special day.
The day proved to be a huge success thanks to the hard work and organisation put in to the event by everyone involved.
