Louth clubs gear up for hurling Feile in south-east

THE dream of every young hurler playing the game is to take part for their club at the National U14 Feile na nGael and that is what awaits the players from Naomh Moninne, Knockbridg­e/Pearse Og and St Fechins next weekend as they make the trip as Louth representa­tives to the competitio­n jointly hosted this year by Leinster counties Wexford, Kilkenny and Carlow.

Beaten Louth Feile finalist Naomh Moninne will take part in Division 7 where they will be hosted by Carlow outfit Burren Rangers. The competitio­n begins on Friday evening when the Dundalk boys will play their opening two group games against Ballinastr­agh Gaels (Wexford) and Castleblan­ey (Monaghan). The following morning they play their host club and move on to the Knock out phase of the competitio­n later on Saturday afternoon.

Competing in Division 8 will be the combinatio­n outfit of Knockbridg­e/Pearse Og with Barrow Rangers from Kilkenny acting as their host club. Their opponents Cian Fitzpatric­k battles for possession. on Friday evening will be East Cavan Gael (Cavan) and Naomh Brid (Carlow) before they also play their Kilkenny host on the Saturday morning.

The third of the Louth representa­tives will be St Fechins who will compete in Division 11 alongside their host Glynn Barntown (Wexford), Clonard (Wexford) and Portlaoise ‘B’ (Laois).

Louth clubs have had a good record at recent Feile’s with Naomh Moninne capturing the Div 6 title in 2014 followed 12 months later by St Fechins capturing the Div 5 title. Friday June 16 Div 7 at Kilanerin: Naomh Moninne v Ballinastr­agh Gaels 5pm; Naomh Moninne v Castleblan­ey 6pm – Div 8 at Paulstown: Knockbridg­e/Pearse Og v Naomh Brid 4.45pm; Knockbridg­e/Pearse Og v East Cavan Gael 6.15pm – Div 11 at Killurin: St Fechins v Clonard 5pm; St Fechins v Portlaoise ‘B’ 6pm. Saturday June 17 Div 7 at Fighting Cocks: Naomh Moninne v Burren Rangers 10.30am – Div 8 at Paulstown: Knockbridg­e/ Pearse Og v Barrow Rangers 11am – Div 11 at Killurin: St Fechins v Glynn Barntown 10am.
