-

THE town of Drogheda has a tradition of producing top-class basketball players and Padraig McGroggan is certainly one to watch after his outstanding performance in St Mary’s DS’ run to All-Ireland Under-19 ‘B’ Cup glory.

Those lucky enough to be inside Tallaght’s National Basketball Arena witnessed one of the finest individual displays in schools history as the team captain helped himself to a massive 30 points (including eight three-pointers), five rebounds, four steals and three assists in the 64-45 final victory over Glanmire of Cork.

St Mary’s also reached the All-Ireland Under-19 ‘B’ League decider where Drogheda Bullets clubman McGroggan again top-scored, but this time they were defeated 42-41 to Crescent College of Limerick whose winning basket came in the last 10 seconds.
