Gavin Rafferty

GAVIN Rafferty made history when becoming Duleek’s first-ever All-Ireland boxing champion a couple of years ago and he now possesses four such medals after his latest success in April.

Competing in the Youth 1 75kg category, the talented youngster beat double Irish champ Michael Doyle in the semis and then out-boxed four-time National champion Ruairi Brennan in the decider and won on a unanimous decision after forcing a standing count in round two.

Gavin, who turns 16 this month, has also won four Michael Andrews championships and four Leinster titles in a row and is hoping to box at an international level later this year. Elder brother Wayne was a beaten finalist at the recent National Under-22 Championships.
