THE steady improvemen­t in the golf game of David Hamill (10) was further enhanced as he captured the Murphy’s, Meigh sponsored June Medal with a nett 65 to edge out Eamon Devlin (18) on the back 9 countback. Third place went to David Rafferty (20) who finished with a nett 67.The Gross prize went to David Pilkington. Next weekend is a singles stableford competitio­n.

Congratula­tions to Sean McMahon who bagged his first ever hole in one at the fourth. A refresher lesson for Sean with newly assigned PGA Profession­al Keith Shannon certainly worked, but Keith says he cannot guarantee an ace for all who take a lesson but will guarantee improvemen­t to their game.

The junior group lessons start on June 19 from 6 to 7pm. The lessons are open to the public as well as club members but must be pre-booked by contacting Keith on 0788572764­2 or email keithshann­on1@hotmail.co.uk. The Junior Group lessons cost is £40 for 5 sessions.

The disappoint­ing result of the weekend was our 3-2 loss to Tandragee at Banbridge in the Jimmy Bruen. We looked to be in control of matters entering the final third of the course but a strong finish from Tandragee saw them overcome their deficits to finally pout paid to our chances on the penultimat­e green where the secured their place in the quarter finals.

A quick day turn-a-round in our All-Ireland Fourball match proved fruitful for team Captain Seamus McGivern. Having lost out at Down Royal on Friday evening 3 ½ to 1 ½ the team were able to overturn that deficit with a 4 ½ to ½ home win on Sunday to progress to round three.

On Monday evening our Senior Cowdy team played host to Clones where we secured a 27 points to 5 lead to take to the away leg later in the month. Our Junior Cowdy team travel to holders Mannan Castle next Sunday with a 3 ½ to a ½ lead. Our Pierce Purcell team will be in Armagh on Saturday battling it out with Ballymoney for a place in the last 8.

The sixth BC Electrics, Dundalk sponsored Friday Open was won with a 3 under par round from David Pilkington (3) which gave him a winning total of 42 points. David was 2 points clear of Corm Myth (14) who finished as runner-up. For the second week in a row Ash field’s Mickey Ru she (11) took the third placed prize money this time by winning a 3 way tie on the countback with 39 points from Seamus Keenan (15) and Chris McCall (19).

Cairo Finnegan (26) posted a score to match his handicap as he won the Front 9 Green marker Wednesday Cup to qualify for the 18 hole final. Cairo had 3 points to spare over last week’s winner John Kelly who had 23 pts. Cairon joins Eamon Devlin, James Coburn, Craig Pearce, Liam O Hare, Paddy Malone and John Kelly as fellow finalists. This week the Back 9 White are in Play.

It was only a matter of time before Dubliner Clive Whelan (26) put it all together for 18 holes to shoot a score. Clive was alive, alive o’ in the Bank Holiday Open Green Markers competitio­n last Monday as he shot the lights out with a return of 49 points, 24 over the front 9 and 25 home. Christophe­r Reel (15) had a superb back nine score of 28 pts to accumulate 45 pts to finish as runner up with Mark Shevlin (17) wtaking third on the countback from James Carragher (17) after both finished on 43 one better than Steve O Hara (12).
