Fight on Newfoundwell Road

-

A FATHER-of-two who became involved in a fight involving a large group of people after he attended his friend’s funeral claimed he was ‘antagonized’ on the night.

Shane Floyd (25) admitted he had drink taken on the night and that his behaviour was completely out of character.

Drogheda District Court heard the defendant was one of a number of people involved in the fight which took place at Newfoundwell Road in Drogheda and he was acting in an aggressive and threatening manner.

The defendant, of Elmwood Close, Termon Abbey admitted using threatening and abusive behaviour at Newfoundwell Road on May 18th. He has two previous road traffic convictions. Defence barrister David Costello said the 25-year-old, who has two young children, is employed as a factory worker.

‘He has a good history of employment and his behaviour on the night was completely out of character,’ said Mr Costello, adding the defendant claims he was being antagonized. Judge John Coughlan said he would give the defendant ‘five minutes’ to come up with a charitable donation of €500. Once the money was paid over, Judge Coughlan struck the case out. ‘It was an expensive fight,’ remarked Judge Coughlan.
