Drogheda man attends Kiev Global Peace Summit
DROGHEDA man Noel O’Neill was part of the gathering at the Global Peace Summit held in Kiev last week, and organised by the Global Union of Scientists for Peace.
The aim of the group is to stop the spread of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction as well as research and promoting the use of evidence-based, non-violent approaches to preventing conflict, promoting national security, and achieving global peace.
Hundreds of scientists from all over the world gathered to hear about cutting edge non-violent solutions to end war and terrorism.
Among others, the conference was addressed by the former president of Mozambique and elder statesman, Joaquim Chissano.
President Chissano is heralded today as a peacemaker, credited with transforming the war-torn country of Mozambique into one of the most successful African democracies.
The conference was also addressed by Rajendra K. Pachauri, who was the Chair of the intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2002-2015 (winner Nobel Peace prize 2007)
