Repair bridge wall before it ends up in river

-

PASSING over St Dominick’s Bridge recently, I spotted the stonework on the bridge, close to the Dominican Church.

It has been coming apart for years now, but seems to be getting a lot worse.

I feel it needs to be reinstated now before it ends up like the other section of the bridge.

A section of wall collapsed into the Boyne a few years ago and a black piece of metal was put up in place of the blocks.

They are still lying at the foot of the bridge and the metal has been defaced.

Councillors should not allow the same thing to happen again and indeed, can they get the council to repair the section that fell.

The bridge needs some respect.

Sr Marie Edwin

ANOTHER ‘what happened to’ story. Miss Elizabeth Marcella McLoughlin (Sister Marie Edwin) was professed into the Dominican convent in Sparkhill, New York in the early 50s. Her parents, Mr and Mrs Edward McLoughlin lived at Vayes Avenue in the Bronx and her mother was formerly Miss Elizabeth Marley of Old Hill while her father was from Mill Lane.

Her first cousin is Pauline Marley of 28 Moran’s Terrace and she worked in the DI.
