Town confirm Horgan’s staying at Marian Park

-

EX Drogheda United player and manager Robbie Horgan is to remain in charge of Drogheda Town’s Leinster Senior League team for 2017/18 after steering them to an eighth-place finish in the Major Division in the season just gone.

The 49-year-old former goalkeeper, who arrived at Marian Park in December 2015, steered the team to a run of seven wins, one draw and three defeats at the end of last season’s league campaign, as well as taking them to the Lummy O’Reilly Cup semi-finals where they lost to the eventual winners CIE Ranch.

Meanwhile, Drogheda Town are seeking new coaches to join the club’s Junior Football Academy for children aged four to seven, that launched late last year.

The Drogheda Town FC Junior Football Academy takes place each Saturday morning from 10.30 to 11.30 at Marian Park and last season saw 40 to 50 children attend regularly, with the club aiming to increase that figure this summer.

No previous coaching experience is required as there are experienced coaches in place to help and guide new coaches.

Drogheda Town say they are committed to developing new coaches through various programmes organised with the FAI, other coaching specialists and the Drogheda Town Committee.

Anyone seeking further information on any of the above is asked to please contact John Walsh on 086-8549499 or Philip Connolly on 086-1506784.

Also taking place at Marian Park, UEFA A Licence coach Mitch Whitty, who has held many high-profile positions within youth football, will deliver a coach education workshop on July 15th July from noon to 2pm.

The workshop will be split into theory and practical sessions and topics covered on the day will include: •Passing practices and games to improve playing off both feet •Practices and games to improve awareness with an open body shape •Outplaying your opponent in 1v1, 2v1, 2v2, 3v2 and 3v3 situations •Transition finishing games

Whitty’s most recent job in football was as first-team coach with Carrick Rangers in the NIFL Premiership. He is also the former Technical Director of the North Dublin Schoolboy League and has been involved with the FAI Regional Development Centres in the past.

Anyone who is interested in attending what should be a fantastic event is asked to please contact Philip Connolly on 086-1506784 for more information or to confirm your place.
