Taxi rank moves to Laurence St

DURING the past week, Drogheda people have been gradually accustomin­g themselves to the changes which the new parking Bye-Laws have brought.

Most affected by the changes are the local taximen, whose rank has been transferre­d from outside St. Peter’s Church to Laurence Street. Two areas of Laurence Street have reen allotted to them, one outside Drogheda Grammar School and the other on the south side, in the vicinity of the Royal Bank. In both of these ranks, the area between the newly erected Taxi signs is for the exclusive use of the hackney car drivers, and no vehicle, other than a public service vehicle, can park there.

Outside St. Peter’s Church, “No Parking “signs have been erected at the Main Gates, and parking is entirely prohibited between these signs.

The Gardai will have done much to eliminate a tiresome bottleneck, with their regulation­s which have come into force in James Street. They have banned all parking in this street. Prior to this parking was allowed between the junctions of Bull Ring-James Street and Graves’ Lane.

Shop Street is also affected by the new Bye-Laws. Forbidden now is any parking between North Quay and Bessexwell Lane. The one-hour parking is still allowed between Bachelor’s Lane and Bessexwell Lane. known family, and his passing has evoked sincere regret.

A native of Ardee, he had been in failing health for the best part of a decade, and spent most of this time confined to bed. Aged 71, he was the last survivor of four brothers Another brother, Larry Malone, Dawson’s Demesne, Ardee, predecease­d him only four months ago. The other brothers were Kit (dead two years) and Patrick (killed in action in France in the First World War).
