Medicinal cannabis appeal lodged

-

The use of medicinal cannabis for patients with specified conditions was debated at the June meeting.

Cllr. Kenneth Flood submitted a motion appealing for Louth County Council to call on Minister for Health, Simon Harris ‘ to introduce legislation that will legalise the use of medicinal cannabis in the treatment of patients with specified medical conditions which have failed to respond to all other medical treatments.’

Cllr. Mark Dearey supported the motion, saying ‘In supporting it I don’t want the message to go out that this is linked to the legalisation of cannabis. Medicinal cannabis is just another medicine and should be treated as such.’

Cllr. Conor Keelan also supported the motion, saying that he would be in favour of well regulated clinical trials.’

Support was also aired by Cllr. Peter Savage and Cllr. Frank Godfrey.
