Kenny strikes late for Gaels

DUNDALK GAELS ST PATRICKS 1-9 1-7

DUNDALK Gaels came from three points down with nine minutes remaining to claim victory over St Patrick’s at Lordship on Tuesday evening.

Pat’s have looked vulnerable in the closing stages of games all season and Gaels took full advantage of that chink in their armour to leave Pairc Eamon with two valuable points.

Eamonn Kenny was the goal hero for the Dundalk men as they capitalised on the home side’s failure once again to see out a game from a winning position.

The opening half saw little between the teams and although it was the Gaels who opened the scoring, the Pats hit back with the help of scores from Eoin O’Connor and Danny O’Connor to lead by the minimum margin, 0-5 to 0-4 , at half time.

The visitors levelled early in the second half and after the next four points were shared the teams were locked at seven points apiece at the end of the third quarter.

The Pats looked to have taken a grip on proceedings when Danny O’Connor scored the opening goal of the game on 51 minutes.

However, not for the first time they failed to build on that advantage and Gaels pulled back a point before Kenny fired them in front on 52 minutes.

The Lordship men were unable to produce another score and it was the Gaels who had the final say to return home with the points.
