DUNDALK GAELS

OUR walk on the Cooley Mountains was a huge success, raising much-needed funds for the club. Upwards on 150 took part, and it was very pleasing to see so many children and their parents involved.

The walkers headed off at 1.45pm from The Lumpers, in Ravensdale, and after covering the scenic route of around 10k, the first of them arrived back at around 5.15. The children had a snack in the Lumpers, while the parents and club members gathered in Kennedy’s on the Carrick Road later that evening.

As winner of the Louth Skills Challenge at school and club level, Liam O’Connor, son of underage mentor and former Louth footballer, Packie O’Connor, will take part in the half-time game at Croke Park on All-Ireland Football Final day. Liam, who plays with the club’s under-12s, won the local competitio­n from a huge number of entrants.

The numbers drawn in last Tuesday’s draw had no matches. Consolatio­n prizes won by Niamh Walsh, Ciaran Burke, B Reynolds and Fr Padraig Keenan. The jackpot in this Tuesday night’s draw is €8,200. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member.

CONGRATULA­TIONS to our men’s team who won against Na Piarsaigh on Tuesday evening. Next up in Division 2 is Hunterstow­n Rovers vs St. Josephs in Cluskey Park on Tuesday evening.

Bingo takes place every Friday night in the Ardee Parish Centre at 8pm. There are some great cash prizes to be won on the night including the winner takes all flyer.

A four-week Full Body Sculpture and Fat Loss programme, with FAST results is being run by resident coach Mauretta from 26th June. For three nights a week Monday 7pm, Wednesday 7pm and Friday. Suitable for all fitness levels and just €5 per night. The LauraLynn Children’s Hospice which is a fantastic cause has been chosen by the John Mitchels Juveniles to receive a share of the proceeds. Well done to our players on the John Mitchels /O’Connells /Stabannon U-14 side that defeated St Brides 2-7 to 2-3 in the semi-final.

Our Division 3 side play Naomh Malachi at 8pm in Ballybaili­e on TUesday night.

Our 6k run/walk is on August 27th. The Irish Cancer Society will jointly benefit from this event. Training sessions will be starting about 4-5 weeks before the event.

KILKERLEY EMMETS

THE seniors play at home this evening, Tuesday June 27 against St Mary’s at 8pm and on Friday travel to play Cooley at 8pm.

KNOCKBRIDG­E

TRAINING continues for all U-6 up to U-12 hurlers this Friday in the Brides field from 5.30 p.m. New members very welcome to come along. U-16 and minor training also begins in preparatio­n for the upcoming South Ulster leagues and county championsh­ip.

Congratula­tions to Neil Thornton who finished 2nd and Conor Quigley who came 3rd in the U-16 Poc Fada held last Wednesday in the Cooley mountains. Also well done to our U-8 hurlers who had great success in the most recent blitz held in Fairgreen, Dundalk.

This Tuesday our U-10’s head to Darver for an all county blitz while Thursday sees our U-13’s travel to the south of the county to take on St. Fechins in the Louth league.

If a hurling team had nine lives our senior team used up two of them in the last week. On Thursday we played Naomh Moninne in a winner take all encounter with a place in the Senior league final at stake. In a very tight game Moninne led by two with time almost up but Gareth Hall won a penalty for the team in red. Ronan Byrne stepped forward to blast the sliothar to give Knockbridg­e a hard earned 1-11 to 0-13 win. Saturday saw most of this team play St. Fechins in the Junioe league final replay. With two minutes to go St. Fechins were hanging on to a 2-9 to 0-12 lead when that man again, Ronan Byrne buried a 21 metre free to the net which was immediatel­y followed by the winning point from Gerry McKeown. This left captain Andrew Smyth to receive the cup after a 1-13 to 2-9 victory in as dramatic a finish in our club history. Well done to all players, mentors and our ever loyal supporters.

THERE was no jackpot winner in Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C. and St. Anne’s Camogie Club Lotto draw held on Wednesday 21st June. The winning numbers were 6, 13, 24, and 26. Our Intermedia­te mens team had a good 3-13(22) to 1-9(12) win over Oliver Plunketts in the Div 2 League on Tuesday 20th June in John Markey Park, Ballygassa­n. The lads now have 2 more upcoming games in the League before the start of the Intermedia­te championsh­ip; v Na Piarsaigh on Tuesday 27th June at Fr. Duffy Park, Dundalk at 8pm and v Hunterstow­n Rovers on Saturday 1st July at Pairc Baile Fiach, Hunterstow­n at 7pm. Hopefuly the lads can continue their good progress in the League.

Hard luck to Kieran Lenihan, Hugh Osborne and William Woods who were on the Louth Junior panel for their Leinster Junior Championsh­ip Final v Meath in Croke Park on Sunday 25th June. All 3 lads got game time but unfortunat­ely it didn’t go to plan as Louth lost on a scoreline of 0-19(19) to 0-10(10).

Naomh Fionnbarra/Lannleire have now reached the final of the U14 league. They reached the final after a great come back on Wednesday evening against Oliver Plunketts in the semi final. All support welcome at the final on Monday 26th at Darver 7.45pm.

NAOMH MALACHI

WELL done to the Kilkerley Emmets/Naomh Malachi U14 team who have reached the Division 2B league final following a comprehens­ive victory over St Marys last week. The final against Roche Emmets will take place on Wednesday evening at 7:30pm in Darver. Best wishes to Aaron, Shane, and Andrew, and their team mates.

The seniors suffered a league defeat to Naomh Mairtin last Monday night. This week they travel to Ballyballi­e on Tuesday evening for a 8pm fixture against the John Mitchels while they face the Westerns in Courtbane on Friday evening with a 8pm throw-in.

As it’s the first year of our Cúl Camps, Naomh Malachi are hosting a camp we are making a big effort to get people signed up. We would appreciate if you could encourage all our Mini Mals to attend while kids from other clubs are also welcome.

NAOMH MONINNE

JUVENILE training continues on Saturday afternoon in the Fairgreen from 2pm to 3pm with the usual €2 contributi­on still applying.

Our senior team suffered a 1-11 to 0-13 defeat to Knockbridg­e in the senior league last Thursday night in the first hurling match played at the new Clans pitch on the Ecco Road. The Moninne scorers were Ronan Geoghegan (0-4), Diarmuid Murphy (0-3), Darren O Hanrahan (0-2), John Martin (0-2), Tadhg Moore (0-1), Donal Connolly (0-1).

The team will play Camlough lough in a challenge match away this Thursday night at 8pm. They are also fixed to play Setanta (Donegal) in round four of the Tain League on Sunday July 2 at 4pm at a venue TBC.

Two members of the senior panel Darren O Hanrahan and Oisin Drumm took part in the Louth Poc Fada at Annaverna last Wednesday evening. Congratula­tions to Darren who came second behind four time winner Gerard Smith.

Our young U8 boys and girls took part in a blitz at the Fairgreen last Friday night playing games against Knockbridg­e and Pearse Og. The Moninne panel was Ciaran Maguire, Oisin Maguire, Ewan McCourt, Orla McCourt, Tiernan Bradley, Grace Cairns and Aoife Dowdall.

This Tuesday night our U10 team take part in an All County CandG Blitz in Darver at 7pm. Following on this Thursday night the clubs U13 team play their second round match in the league when they travel to Collon to take on St Kevin’s/Mattock/Glen Emmets at 7.30pm.

Several members of our club are expected to feature for the Louth U21 team when they take on Monaghan in the All Ireland U21C Championsh­ip on Saturday afternoon July 1 at a venue TBC at 3pm.

This year’s Naomh Moninne Cul Camp will again take place in Dowdallshi­ll from Monday July 31 to Friday August 4 and the cost of the camp is €60. An All County Hurling Cul Camp will take place in Darver next week from Monday July 3 to Friday July 7.

NEWTOWN BLUES

WELL done to the Senior Men that finished on top in their league game against St. Mary’s on Tuesday. Final Score: Newtown Blues 2-15 St. Mary’s 3-11

Our U14 Boys lost out in a great contest against the Dreadnots on Monday night by 4 points in the shield semi final. There was some great team play and they showed great promise as we head into the championsh­ip.

The U10 boys and girls hosted their regional blitz on Monday night along with challenge on Saturday morning against the Plunketts.

Our U8 boys and Girls were busy in Darver on Wednesday at the All County Blitz.

Our U11 boys played St. Kevin’s on Friday night in their Go Games fixtures.

Our U7 Boys and Girls travelled to St. Mary’s on Sunday morning for their regional blitz in Ardee.

Hard luck to our Division 3 Ladies team that lost out in the semi final to a good Clan Na Gael side in the league. The ladies were slow to start and just didn’t get into a rhythm to get ahead.

Our U12 Girls also lost out to St. Fechins in their league semi final by 4 points in a great contest. This was a tense match with the Fechins getting a late goal to seal the victory.

Our U10 Girls attended their regional blitz hosted by the Fechins on Saturday morning and demonstrat­ed how well they are coming along as team working the ball through the hands for some great scores.

Good luck to all our teams this week especially to our girls teams as they prepare for their semi final competitio­ns.

OLIVER PLUNKETTS

THERE was great excitement among our young parents and under 14 players as they prepared for their big adventure in going to Brookborou­gh Co. Fermanagh representi­ng their county club and of course themselves at the Féile na nÓg this last week-end. It was a wonderul adventure for them especially meeting their counterpar­ts from so many parts of the country and abroad. The Plunketts lads reached the quarter-finals only to encounter a strong team rom Warwickshi­re. They did themselves and all of us proud. It was all worthwhile and players and parents alike were enamoured with the welcome and generosity of the Brookeboro­ugh club. Everyone enjoyed the effort!

The President elect of the GAA John Horan will be at the club on Saturday to launch the our 5-year Plan. We are honoured that he has agreed to be with us on this special occasion and it will be his first club visit in the county since taking up his prestigiou­s position within the GAA. Supermac’s, our new main sponsors, will be in attendance also. All members and supporters are welcome to come along or the launch at 12 noon.

This Tuesday our seniors will be in action against Naomh Mochta and on Friday against St. Josephs. in an important League game and all support will be greatly appreciate­d..

O RAGHALLAIG­H’S

THE handball club were in action in Galway at the 7th anuaul Mount Talbot handball competitio­n with four club men making the trip. In his first ever club competitio­n Sam Cunningham got to the semi final of the under 14, but unfortunat­ely, was beaten 15-8. Eleanor Smith entered into the ladies challenger grade and this was her first ever competitio­n. Eleanor played great handball to reach the final only to be beaten 17-12. Well done to to Sam and Eleanor. In the men’s ‘B’ Billy Caddell reached the final only to be beaten 12-10. In the men’s open grade Ben Devlin reached the semi final only to be beaten by Charles Shanks from Armagh 24-15. The club would like to thank all the parents who travelled to the tournament and looked after our players. Next week will see our club members travel to compete in the onewall leinster championsh­ip in Ballycolla, Co Laois. Good look to all our members.

OUR U14s have been grouped with St Fechins, O’Raghallaig­hs and Mattock Rangers/Hunterstow­n Rovers in gthe championsh­ip, while the U-16s were drawn with Dundalk Gaels, Dreadnots and Cooley Kickhams/

In the Minor Championsh­ip, Roche Emmets/St Brides will face St. Mochtas, Ardee St Marys, Wolfe Tones.

An understren­gth senior team were away to Kilkerley Emmets Division 1 and came away with a nine-point victory after a splendid all round performanc­e.

On Monday night our U14s had a fine win over the Wolfe Tones by 3-4 to 2-5, well done lads.

Our Junior team received the two league points on Friday night without having to tog out, via a walkover.

The Sean O’Mahony’s/Na Piarsaigh/Dowdallshi­ll U14s lost out in a 10-goal thriller in their division 1 semi-final to Mattock Rangers/ Hunterstow­n Rovers by 7-7 to 3-9. Well done lads on getting to the semi-finals.

This Tuesday our seniors are away to Dreadnots at 8pm in the Division 1 league.

On Friday our U12s host Wolfe Tones on the Point Road at 7.30.
