Mega win for Devin’s team in league decider

-

MEGAN Devin’s team produced a superb finish to run out winners of Greenhills BC’s Juvenile Trips League Final last Thursday night.

There was a great buzz around the club ahead of the decider, which was played in a very sporting manner over nine ends under IIBA rules.

The opponents for the eventual winners were Oliver Clutterbuck’s team and as the game progressed you could see the nerves creeping in as there were a few wayward shots.

However, Megan’s team settled quicker of the two finalists and after three ends they had gone two up.

Oliver’s team continued to struggle and the deficit increased to five after five ends. leaving them with a mountain to climb.

They did make a great recovery in the sixth end, though, and suddenly there were just two shots between the two finalists.

Oliver’s team kept their composure and amazingly the scores were back level with two ends remaining.

The prospects didn’t look good for Megan’s team at that stages, but somehow she rallied the troops in the last two ends and they played some superb shots to the head and ran out victorious by four shots.

Stand-out performers on the night were Cain Mc Kenna and Chloe Dykstra.

The presentation of prizes was performed by Darver club bowler Sarah Finnegan who was very impressed by the standard of bowling produced by the juniors on the night. She said it was a very tactical game and thanked the Greenhills club for their invitation.

Club chairman Val McGuire stated in his address that it was a great credit to both teams who played great bowls throughout the final which the members enjoyed immensely. He also thanked the juniors who participated in the matches throughout the league and Sarah for taking time out of her busy schedule to present the prizes.

To close out the evening, there was a game of bowls after a light super and a special thank-you from the club goes to Josephine Moran and Gertie Griffin for providing the refreshments throughout the league.

Members are asked to note that the Summer League Doubles draw will take place this Thursday at 8 30pm sharp. This week’s play is also on Thursday - juniors 7 to 8pm and seniors 8 to 10.30pm.
