ALL STAR PERFORMANCE

The Shay Morgan Memorial Darts Tournament held in Mathews, Collon on Friday 16th, the last event in Broomfield Festival 2017, threw up quite an unexpected result with the lads from The Morning Star, Tullyallen taking all the spoils on the night. In the Semi-finals, Morning Star A defeated Boyne Valley Inn, while Morning Star B, defeated Mathews. There was no quarter given in the all Star Final with the Star A Team emerging victorious. Player of the Tournament was Brian Smith, Morning Star. Thanks also to the Members of the Morgan Family for their support as always. A special thanks to Niall Roche for his input to the Tournament this year and every year since its inception. Niall conducts the draw, sets out the rules, and puts ‘Smacht’ on proceedings when required. Congratulations to all who triumphed on the night, well done to all involved.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

The anti-social behaviour, reported here earlier unfortunately continues. The offenders have now succeeded in smashing park furniture, damaging trees and generally creating a mess on Hungry Hall Park. This has been reported to the Gardai on several occasions, but unfortunately, to date, the culprits have not been apprehended. Whoever is carrying out this wanton vandalism must be a great help to their mothers!

BLOOD DONATION THANKS

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) would like to thank all 70 Donors who attended the recently held clinic in Teach Raitneach, Starinagh, Collon. A special thank you to our Local Voluntary Organiser, Jim Mooney, Slane Red Cross and to Linda Dillon for their help and support prior to and during the holding of the clinic. A breakdown of the total figures shows that 9 former donors and 9 new donors attended the clinic.

It is our wish to continue to service the Slane/Collon community, and we would urge the people of the district to continue to support this essential service by maintaining and increasing the level of support on our next visit.

About 70,000 patients are transfused with blood each year in Irish Hospitals. To do this we must collect approximately 3,000 donations of blood each and every week from voluntary donors like you.

A total of 678 units were required in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan and 2,466 units were required in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda alone during 2016

Finally on behalf of all the patients in hospital who benefit from your generosity a heartfelt thank you to all who attended or helped our Slane/Collon clinic in any way.
