SCOIL NAOMH BUITHE WIN
There were huge celebrations last Saturday week morning, the 17th of June, when the girl’s football team from Scoil Naomh Buithe, Tenure collected an All-County school’s trophy in Darver, where Cluichí Ceannais, Cumann na mBunscoil, Contae Lú were held.
Heading into the final, they were underdogs against the ever present Knockbrdge NS girls team, who have won this competition numerous times. That said, the skill and determination of the Scoil Naomh Buithe girls had made them winners in their previous 12 games which made for very even contest on paper.
However, once again the skill, determination and never say die attitude of the Tenure girls was evident on Saturday and they saved their best performance for last. The team gave it their all, and in the end, they were rewarded for their hard efforts on the day, and also for their efforts in training throughout the year. As the final whistle blew, there were joyous scenes to behold both on and off the field! Great credit and a sincere thank you to the parents and families of the girls who turned out in fantastic numbers to support them on the day.
The Tenure captain, Katie Ryan, accepted Sciath Mhic Giolla Eáin (The Alec McClean Shield) on behalf of the team. Comhgairdeas to all the girls on the panel. Hopefully the 6th class girls will continue to play football into the future and the 4th and 5th class girls will encourage younger members as they join the team. Well done to Cumann na mBunscoil for their time and effort which results in so many schoolchildren being afforded the opportunity to play football and participate in competitions. Nár laga Dia bhur lámha.
