Paul and Karen keep on track on epic journey

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

DEDICATED couple Paul and Karen McGovern began day 31 of their marathon trek from Mizen Head to Malin Head on Monday, determined they’ll make it to the finish.

The pair started off in Mizen a month ago and they’ll walked through Cork, Kerry, Clare and Galway and hit the Mayo border this week.

Their latest stretch is 24km from Westport to Foxford.

They admitted they were ‘mentally drained’ on Sunday after walking for 42 miles over the previous two days.

They still have 18 days to go on the road and are not expected to arrive back into Dunleer until - but will be getting a lift from Malin for that final journey!

The pair are doing the walk for MS Ireland and have been supported along the way by Centra stores.

Paul was diagnosed with MS some years ago and while admitting that the walk is tough, remains determined that he’ll complete it.

They have had to endure the various aspects of the Irish weather, from 30 degree heat early on, to wind and rain at times.

The total journey is expected to take 49 days and will cover 1,000km in total.
