Nash welcomes constituency decision

-

Senator Ged Nash has welcomed the recommendation from the independent Constituency Commission that the Louth Dail constituency will remain a five seat constituency in the next general election.

Laytown, Bettystown, Mornington, Julianstown and housing estates on the Meath fringe of Drogheda like Grange Rath and Highlands will remain part of the Louth constituency.

Senator Nash said, “In arriving at their decision to retain these parts of County Meath in the constituency, the Commission was cognisant of the deep and established relationship between East Meath and Drogheda.

“I work hard to represent constituents and organisations doing great work in the community in East Meath and I am pleased that a common sense decision has been made by the Commission.

“I am disappointed though that the Commission chose not to rename the constituency ‘LouthEast Meath’ to better reflect the geography and the reality of the constituency.

“This step should have been taken and I will be requesting that the Minister addresses this shortcoming when the report is presented to the Oireachtas.”
