Dragons heading for Bellewstown
The Dragons from RTE’s hugely popular Dragons’ Den will experience racehorse ownership for the first time at Bellewstown Racecourse on Friday 7th
July.
The Dragons and their production team will join the ‘Experience It’ campaign, a new initiative by Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) to promote racehorse ownership. ‘Experience It’ offers individuals and groups with an interest in racing the opportunity to trial racehorse ownership before making a full commitment.
The campaign facilitates a group to lease a horse for a day. In the lead up to the raceday they can follow their horse’s progress, visit their trainer’s yard and have a runner on the track in their name.
The newly formed Dragons’ Den syndicate are hoping that fellow dragon Chanelle McCoy, former Galway festival winning jockey and wife of the legendary 20-times British champion jockey Sir Anthony McCoy, will steer them in the right direction. Chanelle will be joined by Dragons Alison Cowzer and Eleanor McEvoy to also judge the Best Dressed Lady competition on the evening.
The Dragons’ trainer is County Meath-based Keith Clarke. No stranger to the winners’ enclosure, Keith is delighted to accommodate the Dragons’ Den syndicate, stating: “The ‘Experience It’ campaign gives trainers like me the opportunity to show people what really happens behind the scenes of racing, and the work that goes into preparing a horse for a race. I am looking forward to having the Dragons on board as owners for a day at Bellewstown, and fingers crossed they will also get to experience the winners enclosure.”
Dragon and entrepreneur, Gavin Duffy, said: ‘We are so looking forward to going to Bellewstown next Friday. It is my local track and a really fun three-day race meeting is in store. Having a runner on the night is an added bonus and will really add to the excitement. The ‘Experience It’ campaign is a great initiative. To have a runner in our name is that little bit different. It will give everyone a great insight into what it is really like to be a racehorse owner. Leading in a winner with my fellow Dragons and the Dragons’ Den team would be the icing on the cake.”
