ONE to be part of Francis Ledwidge event
THE Drogheda Slane branch of the ONE will play their part in a commemoration of Slane poet Francis Ledwidge who died in action during WWI.
The ex servicemen and women will form the colour party at the graveside of the warrior poet in Belgium on July 31.
23 members will travel on July 29 and lay a wreath at the grave and also feature at the Menin Gate ceremony and in the Peace Park at Messines.
Jim Fay from the group says that the Belgian trip will be one of the most significant trips in the 65 year history of the local ONE in the area.
Recognised as the Slane branch until 2013, the members were all active in the Defence Forces..
Their main task is looking after retired soldiers and they operate three homes in Dublin, Letterkenny and Athlone.
