- BY HUBERT MURPHY

SIX cyclists completed an amazing Mizen to Malin cycle in less than 24 hours last weekend in aid of the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre.

Andrew Mcafee, Peter McKeown, John Byrne, Brian Grogan, Barry Meehan and Andrew Grogan from the White River Wheelers Cycling Club took off from Co Cork at 1pm on Saturday and rode almost non stop to reach Malin the following day.

They reached Athlone in the early hours of Sunday morning, just over the halfway mark, and by 3am had reached Longford.

They hit daylight in Ballinamore and raced on into Strabane before the climb into Malin where family and friends were waiting in a sea of red and white to welcome the Louth men in.

They completed the incredible 600km journey with two minutes to spare!

The team had a magnificent back up crew with them all the way to make sure they made it safely to their destination.

‘ The reception we got at Malin head just blew our minds, never expected it,’ the team stated.

It was a huge weekend for the club as over in Norway, they also had riders at the Insomina race and they completed that too!
