New Census figures show Louth has 60k labour force

There are just over 60,000 people in the labour force in County Louth according to the latest statistics from the Central Statistics Office, a rise of 4% since 2011.

The labour force participat­ion rate in the county was 60.9%, compared to 61.4% for the State overall, according to the Census. The male participat­ion rate was 67.5% while the female participat­ion rate was 54.5%.

The latest Census figures also slow that there are 13,989 retired people living in Louth, an increase of 18.6%.

The number of retired persons in County Louth stood at 13,989 in April 2016, an increase of 18.6%. The number of students aged 15 years and over stood at 11,145, an increase of 9.9%. This was more than double the rate of increase at national level (4.5%). In Census 2016, some 13.9% of Louth’s population indicated that they had a disability, compared to 13.5% who did so nationally. 4.2% of Louth residents provided regular unpaid personal help for a friend or family member, just above the figure at national level (4.1%).
