Dundalk Gaels halt the Blues revival

-

DUNDALK GAELS 2-12 NEWTOWN BLUES 0-11 DUNDALK Gaels brought the Newtown Blues mini-revival to a halt as they recorded a seven point win at The Ramparts.

The result means that the Dundalk side are very much in the hunt for a top four place as they sit just three points off the top. In a relatively even contest it was the Gaels ability to take their goal chances that proved the difference.

Both teams had gone into the game on the back of two successive wins and the battle to make it three-in-a-row resulted a tight first half. It was the home side who edged ahead at the break with a 1-4 to 0-6 lead thanks to a fisted goal from Niall Hearty.

The second period followed a similar pattern as the sides exchanged points over the course of the half hour. Once again it was the Gaels who managed to raise the green flag when Chris Sweeney added a second goal to seal the win.
