Duleek/Bellewstown return to winning ways

-

DULEEK/B’TOWN CURRAHA 2-11 1-12

ALTHOUGH THEIR promotion hopes disappeared following the defeat to Ratoath Duleek-Bellewstown returned to winning ways with a fine home win against their neighbours on Friday evening.

With both sides hitting 13 scores there was never much between the sides and in the end two first half goals from the home team provided the difference.

Robin Clarke and Eanna Byrne struck the crucial goals and that boosted the hosts to a 2-4 to 0-7 lead at half-time.

That lead increased in the early stages of the second half with John Flood converting a free and corner back James Murphy hitting the score of the game having initially broken up a Curraha attack.

However Curraha had wiped out that five point difference and were on level terms by the 40th minute after finding the net with Conor Moriarty the goal scorer.

Darren Heeney and Moriarty then swapped points before the home side struck three in a row, with Conall McGinley on target with two and Flood also on the mark.

Curraha got it back to the minimum but McGinley’s third point sealed the win for Duleek-Bellewstown.

ST MICHAEL’S 1-18 SYDDAN 0-10

SYDDAN’S slump continued as promotion-chasing St Michael’s had matters much their own way at Carlanstown last Friday evening.

The visitors were severely understrength and never led at any stage but were well in the game throughout the opening half and only trailed by the minimum at half-time, 0-6 to 0-7. Four of the Syddan points in that half came from Brian Dillon and substitute Stephen Dillon was also on target as a three point deficit was cut to just one before the break.

Any chance Syddan had of causing an upset disappeared in the third quarter as the home side turned up the heat to stretch their lead 1-15 to 0-6.

Oran Meehan put St Michael’s firmly on course for victory when pointing within 30 seconds of the restart and midfielder Felim O’Reilly quickly added another point. Sub

Ciaran Lynch also hit a point but the score that ended the game as a contest arrived on 42 minutes when Ray Reilly found the Syddan net.
