Lights at Mell NS activated

-

LOUTH County Council (LCC) has said it will move to take in charge the road at Mell NS and activate the pedestrian lights that have been covered over for over a year.

The issue was raised at the July meeting of Drogheda Municipal District by Councillor Pio Smith who asked what the plans are for the lights are Mell school which are still covered up and not in use despite the fact that they were supposed to be operational over a year ago.

He said the lights should be working and would help with safety in the area.

Borough Engineer Pat Finn said the pedestrian crossing was put in by the Department of Education as part of the school build but was never commissioned.

He said the council were going to look at taking the site in charge at this stage and once that goes ahead then the crossing and the lights could be commissioned.

Work on the new school building, which was granted planning permission back in 2008, began in 2010 and was completed a number of years ago.
