Double yellow lines needed at Silk Park

-

DOUBLE yellow lines are needed at the entrance to the Silk Park estate to ensure accessibility for residents and emergency services, it has been claimed.

The issue was raised by Councillor David Saurin in a notice of motion at the July meeting of Drogheda Municipal District.

Commenting at the meeting, Councillor Saurin said the situation at the moment is unsafe.

He said he has seen situations where cars have had to drive up the middle of the road to get access to the estate and said there is also an issue with an abandoned car.

‘We need to install something there be it yellow lines, bollards or something else,’ he said.

In a written response to the motion, the council said the issue of access and sightlines at Silk Park has been examined and following consultation with An Gara Siochana the council proposes to install a yellow box on Platin Road to assist access/ egress at the estate entrance.

Further inspection will be carried out to consider if additional parking restrictions at the entrance road are warranted.

Cllr Saurin said that while the yellow box is welcome it doesn’t fully deal with the issue there.

Supporting the motion, Councillor Paul Bell said there is a lot of inconsiderate parking in this area with cars parking up on footpaths and in areas they shouldn’t.

‘It’s incumbant on us to try and discourage it,’ he said adding there is a huge amount of heavy traffic and lorries travelling to and from Platin that use this road.

‘It can be address at very low cost and I would support this motion,’ he said.
