-

A JUDGE told a woman, who went on a tw0-day crime spree, he has ‘sympathy’ for her as she hasn’t got all the breaks in life.

Nora McDonagh (22) was given a ten month suspended sentence at Drogheda District Court after she pleaded guilty to causing €800 worth of criminal damage to to a security camera at Domino’s Pizza on Mary Street on September 4th, 2016 and trespass at the premises with the intent to commit an offence on the same date.

She further pleaded guilty to the theft of an Apple iPhone and a money pouch from a car which was parked at Applegreen Service Station in Castlebellingham the following day, September 5th.

Defence solicitor Dermot Monahan explained to Judge John Coughlan the defendant is a member of the Travelling community and ‘wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth.’

‘Both her parents are criminals and she had to look after her siblings at the age of 14,’ said Mr Monahan.

‘She wasn’t in any trouble until she turned 18 and has an addition to street Xanax and painkillers,’ he said, adding she is now attending a counsellor for her addiction.

The defendant, with an address at Afton Drive in Dundalk, has 16 previous convictions, including five for theft.

A charge of stealing just over €2,000 worth of mobile phones from Tesco in Drogheda was struck out by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Judge Coughlan warned her ‘If you re-offend, even spit on the footpath you will serve it. It’s black and white. You are getting a chance. I have sympathy for you - you haven’t got all the breaks in life’ he said.
