Open up the former Abbey car park to the public when court is not sitting is an idea

-

THE new courthouse began operations last week and it looks a fine development.

However, the former car park in front of it seems to be attracting plenty of attention (right).

I’ve heard calls for it to be opened up to the public when the court is not sitting, so helping businesses in the area.

Even if it could be done on Saturdays and Sundays.

Thomas Byrne was Land League activist

70 years ago it happened: The death took place of Mr Thomas Byrne of Mosstown, Dunleer at the age of 98. In his day, he was a prominent Nationalist during the Land League days and and right up to his death, he could recall the local happenings after the great Famine. He was the father of Cllr Paddy Byrne of Mooremount House, Dunleer. He was buried in Mosstown.

Mornington potholes

HOPEFULLY the council can do something with the potholes at the Maiden Tower in Mornington. They are in a bad way.

The area here is very popular and attracts a lot of visitors, but you can hardly walk here now, never mind drive.

The area was levelled out a few years ago, but it’s back to its very worst now.
