Pakistani man found to have no entry visa

A PAKISTANI man stopped for driving without insurance was found to be illegal in the country after gardai discovered he had no entry visa in his passport.

Wagas Shafqat (23) who did not appear before Drogheda District Court had a bench warrant issued for his arrest for Judge John Coughlan to sentence him for the offence of no entry visa.

The defendant, with an address at Avenue Two, Yellowbatt­er was convicted of the offences in his absence.

The court heard he was stopped on January 21st at Yellowbatt­er. When gardai asked him to produce his passport it was discovered he did not have an entry stamp in it.

‘He is illegal here,’ the prosecutin­g garda told the court. The offence of not having an entry visa carries a maximum fine of €1,000.

He was also driving without insurance, which Judge Coughlan convicted and fined him €500 and banned him from driving for two years.
