A MOTORIST who crashed into a County Council vehicle causing €4,000 worth of damage has been convicted and fined €1.

Brendan Carragher (39) was initially charged with dangerous driving but had this charge reduced to a careless driving charge, which he pleaded guilty to before Drogheda District Court.

He was also charged with hit and run which happened at Harestown Road, Monasterboice on August 29th, 2016. The court heard a worker from Louth County Council had parked his vehicle along Harestown Road. The defendant, of Drumcar in Dunleer, drove into the parked vehicle causing the damage.

As the defendant is currently serving a sentence for another offence, Judge John Coughlan imposed a conviction and fined him €1. He struck the hit and run charge out.
