Calls for new pedestrian crossing on the Meath-Louth border at Rosevale estate

-

A call has been made for a pedestrian crossing to be installed on the Beamore Road, close to the county boundary with Louth at Rosevale.

East Meath Councillor Stephen McKee said there is a huge road safety issue on the Beamore Road junction close to the entrance to the Rosevale estate and a number of families in the area have contacted him with concerns.

‘ There is currently no safe crossing there, which is in the vicinity of a large number of housing estates including Rosevale, Avourween, Legavooren and Ard Ri,’ he said. ‘Something urgent needs to be done and I have contacted Meath County Council and the Road Safety Officer, to highlight how dangerous this road is. Hundreds of local school children cross this road daily and it is totally unsafe.’

Meanwhile, Louth County Council are to carry out a site inspection at the junction of Meadowview and the Beamore Road.

The news has been welcomed by local TD Fergus O’Dowd who said: ‘I have been in contact with the LCC in recent weeks over the very serious safety concerns that relate to the Meadowview/Beamore Road junction. With the significant rise in student footfall in the area over the last number of years since the opening of St Marys NS, and the continued traffic and student footfall from both St Mary’s Diocesan and Sacred Heart schools, this junction has become increasingly dangerous and it’s time the Council make the necessary changes.

‘Pedestrian safety must be paramount in any decision making but a left slip lane for traffic to exit onto the Beamore Road would reduce the traffic congestion.’
