‘Bus bays full of cars’

-

Drogheda is losing hundreds of tourists per week to neighbouring towns as cars continue to park illegally in designated bus bays, Senator Ged Nash claimed.

He explained, “Just last week I was contacted by a coach company representative who informed me that three buses packed with students on a shopping trip attempted to park in bus bays in the centre of Drogheda only to divert to Dundalk because the bays were packed with cars.

“This has to stop and the message should go out from the Council loud and clear – bus bays are for buses only.

“There should be no ambiguity about this and motorists who are parking in these bays should face the consequences under the law.

“Retailers are missing out on the business as word gets out in the coach and tourism sector that it’s difficult to get parked in Drogheda in the summer.

“It affects jobs and compromises the great work being done to promote our town as a significant tourist destination.”
