Dates for the Eddie Maher tournament

The Eddie Maher Memorial Pre-Season tournament will take place at Albion Rovers FC over two weekends – 19th/20th & 26th/27th August 2017.

Weekend 1 19th/20th Aug U10 & U11 (7 a-side), U12 (9 a-side) Weekend 2 26th/27th Aug U13, U14, U15 & U16 (all 11 a-side) Cost: €120 for 11-a side (U13 & above inclusive) €100 for 9-side (U12) €80 for 7-a-side (U10 & U11) .

The tournament is held every year in memory of Eddie Maher, who passed away in March 2009.

Eddie was the son of former world handball champion Joey and Doris Maher. Music and sport played a huge part in Eddie’s life and he was a gifted musician.

He managed the club’s under-12 side, for which his son Alan was a star player, having taken charge of the team at under-8 level and enjoyed great success as a coach. The team’s finest hour came in 2008 when Eddie led them to victory in the Under-11 Drogheda District Schoolboys /girls League cup final at United Park.

Eddie also spent a number of years on the club’s committee, where he worked tirelessly to develop the Monasterboice outfit. One of his lasting legacies is the club shop, open on match days, which he helped to set up and run.
