-

BERNADETTE Foley, a resident of Rossmoor, Walnut Creek, California, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California, on the morning of June 30, 2017 at the age of 88.

Bernadette was born in Drogheda, Ireland on October 12, 1928 and was one of seven siblings born to Robert Williams and Bridget (Mathews) Williams. She decided to become a nurse (RN) so she pursued the education and training required for that profession in Ireland.

During this training, she was introduced to a cousin of a co-worker, John Foley. He became the love of her life. They were married on December 29, 1958 in her hometown of Drogheda, Ireland and remained married for 58 blissful years until her passing. In 1958, they had settled in San Jose, California and remained there until 2014; after which they moved to Rossmoor, Walnut Creek.

She is survived by her spouse, John; her children: Anne, Kevin (Cherry), Mary (Thomas), Robert (Janice), Patricia (Howard), along with eight grandchildren, Alicia, Nicole (Harol), Tyler, Katelyn, Bridget, Jessica, John and Samantha. Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Maureen Halpin. She is survived by her siblings, Paddy Williams, Raymond Williams, Robert Williams, Tony Williams, Una Kierans and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

After Bernadette retired from nursing, she loved the visits by her children and grandchildren and relatives from Ireland plus she loved to garden, cook and bake and created beautiful quilts. More than anything, she was a generous and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
