Familyand community had great friend in Eugene Geraghty

-

A FAMILY and a community lost a great friend and colleague with the death of Eugene Geraghty, Mullaghfin, Duleek , at the age 74. He passed away in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital on 18th June 2017.

Eugene had a long career as a butcher working both in Ireland and across the water, starting at the tender age of 15 right up to his recent illness where he did a few hours a week with Kevin’s family butchers in Drogheda.

He was a strong GAA man and community person, he had a promising career in Gaelic football both at home and across the water, and was former chairman of Duleek GFC for 7 years and was heavily involved with his local Duleek / Bellewstown club right up to recent times. He is uncle to former Meath star Graham Geraghty.

He was never as happy as when he was at a game, at the Friday night GAA bingo in his local clubhouse, marking the field or cleaning the premises, this all showed his love of the sport and his club, he was a people person through and through and this was reflected at the large attendance at his funeral on Wednesday 21st June in St Cianans church Duleek.

Eugene is survived by his wife Margaret, Daughters Siobhan, Ciara , Lorraine and sons Gary, Darren and Eugene. Also, his 11 grandchildren, Emma, Rachel, Ryan , Cealain , Aoife , Adam , Shauna Eva, Kyle, Ella and Zara, son in laws Brian , Tommy and Ronan , daughters in law Joanne and Maria. Brother Ger, Sisters Patricia, Cepta and Anne, sister and brothers in law. He was pre-deceased by brothers Dessie and Vincent and parents Jack and Frances, who were from White Cross, Duleek.

The Months mind mass for Eugene will be celebrated on 15th July at 7.30 pm in St Cianans church Duleek.
