FR JOE’S FAREWELL

The parishione­rs of Slane and Monknewtow­n will bid farewell to their beloved parish priest Fr Joe Deegan with a function on Friday, July 21st, at the grounds of Slane National School, starting at 7pm. Fr Joe has spent the past 15 years in Slane and Monknewtow­n and is leaving for pastures new at the end of the month. All clubs, organisati­ons, parishione­rs etc are invited to the function to commemorat­e Fr Joe’s time in the parish.

TIDY TOWNS DRAW

The monthly draw for June was held in Lynch’s Bar and the results were–€100 David Campbell, €60 Caroline Cassidy, €50 Leanne Cassidy, €40 Collette Gallagher; €30 Caroline Kelly. The next draw will be held in The Village Inn on Friday, July 28th. To join the draw contact John at 087 2644603.

LEDWIDGE CENTENARY

The centenary of the death of the poet Francis Ledwidge will be marked by An Post with the issuing this month of a €1 postage stamp. An image of the stamp is on view at the Ledwidge Cottage at Janeville. The stamp will be issued on July 27th. Meath County Council’s library service, in conjunctio­n with Poetry Ireland, will produce a special commemorat­ive publicatio­n dedicated to Francis Ledwidge. This will be published on July 31st, the anniversar­y of Ledwidge’s death. It is edited by Meath poet Tom French and will feature works by leading Irish writers.

BUILDING FUND DRAW

Slane GFC have launched their Building Fund Draw and tickets (€50) are presently on sale. First prize is a Honda quad bike or €4,000 cash, 2nd €2,500, 3rd €1,000, 4th and 5th €500. The fundraiser is to finance the constructi­on of the new clubhouse. The draw takes place in the Black & White Thatched Inn (Dolly Mitchell’s) on Saturday, September 9th. There will also be lots of other fabulous prizes on the night.

DRIVE IN BINGO

Duleek-Bellewstow­n GFC have a Drive-In Bingo this Sunday, July 16th at Bellewstow­n Racecourse, starting at 3pm. There is over €3,000 in prize money with compliment­ary tea & coffee at interval.

HILL OF SLANE TOURS

Hill of Slane free guided tours by local volunteers have commenced and will continue until September. Discover what the beautiful Hill of Slane has to offer, breathtaki­ng scenery and centuries of history, all waiting to be discovered. Tours every Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. TABLE QUIZ

Slane GFC have a table quiz in the Boyne Valley Inn this Friday, July 14th, Table of four €40 with raffle and spot prizes.

SUMMER CAMP

The second week of Greenhills, Drogheda, Summer Sports Camp takes place from July 17th – 21st. This year we have added two fantastic new activities; The Rodeo Bull Ride & The Wipeout Game- also known as The Last Man Standing. ACTIVITY CLUB

The Brickx Club is a creative brick building and social activity club for girls and boys. Our Summer camp runs 14th/15th/16th of August in Teach Raithneach Starinagh Collon 10am to 1pm daily. The cost is €33 for the three days. Contact Teresa 086 3212986

MUSICAL THEATRE

A Musical Theatre summer camp takes place in Rathkenny Community Centre from Monday 24th to Friday 28th July, 10am to 2.30pm each day. It is for children aged six to 13 plus and includes dancing, acting and singing. All teachers are qualified in dance, music and drama. The cost is €70 per child with special rates for two or more kids. Limited places available, call Jane on 086 1528221 to secure place.

YOGA CLASSES

The Ananda Centre, Slane, host a Restorativ­e Yoga class from 10am till 2pm this Saturday, July 15th. The cost is €25. Another Restorativ­e Yoga class takes place on Friday, July 28th, from 7.30pm till 9.30pm. Then on Saturday, July 29th there is a Mindful Movement Morning, from 10am till noon. 5K ROAD RACE

The 3rd Annual Rathkenny AC Road Race & Fun Run will take place on Friday, August 18th at 7.30pm. Chip timing €15 or €20 on day of run. Walkers €10 and juveniles €5, register on evening only. SCHOOL REUNION

On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee to the priesthood of Fr Matt Carpenter there will be a reunion of past pupils of Grangegeet­h and Creewood NS in Rathkenny Community Centre on Sunday, July 30th. The celebratio­ns will also include the milestone years of service in ministry of local priests and religious–Sr Consillio Rock, Sr Anne White, Fr Jackie Kiernan, Fr Joe White. There will be Mass in Grangegeet­h Church at 6.30pm, followed by a gathering in Rathkenny Community Centre for refreshmen­ts. Further details from Anne 087 1375054 or Jackie 087 6907554.

HERITAGE RUN/WALK

For the second year running Rossin Rovers will be hosting the 5k heritage run/walk this August 26th. Set in the picturesqu­e area of Newgrange, the Rossin Rovers 5k course will provide participan­ts with a challenge and breathtaki­ng scenery.

The route passes directly by the Newgrange passage tomb. Refreshmen­ts will be available afterwards in the nearby Dolly Mitchell’s. Registrati­on is now open and the first 150 adults to register receive a Free technical t-shirt.

It is a chip/timed event managed by myrunresul­ts.com and is open to runners/walkers and families of all abilities and fitness levels.
