17-year-old arrested in Rathmullen Park as bike seized

A 17-year-old was arrested in Rathmullen Park at the weekend following a joyriding incident involving two scramber bikes.

The arrest comes following a spate of similar incidents in two local estates over the past four months and locals have expressed their safety fears over the continuing problem.

Gardaí were called to attend at around 7pm after receiving a number of complaints from local resident about two teenagers riding scrambler bikes through the estate in a dangerous manner. A spokesperson for the gardaí said members pursued both bikes and following a chase on foot one 17-year-old youth was arrested and his motorbike was detained. He said the gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the second motorcyclist involved in the incident.
