Drogheda celebrates Pride 2017

THE annual Drogheda Pride Festival will take place in Drogheda from August 11th -13th August.

This is the second year of the festival and promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s event.

The proceeding­s will kick of on Friday, August 11th with the opening of Pride at Millmount where there will be a raising of the Pride flag, readings an dan opening ceremony which begins at 12 noon.

This will be followed by a family fun day in the Barbican centre from 1pm to 4pm.

This promises to be a great event for young and old alike and it is free to attend.

The evening festivitie­s will begin that evening in the Weavers bar where there will be a band and DJ from 8pm until late.

The main day of celebratio­ns will take place on Saturday, August 12th with a special Pride breakfast in Stockwell Artisan Foods, Stockwell Street from 10am to 12 noon. This will be following by promtion awareness of the Drogheda LGBTQ Group in different locations around the town centre and on West Street.

The main celebratio­ns will kick off at 8pm on Saturday night in McHugh venue with ringmaster of Drag Race, the fabulous Paul Ryder and Drag Queen Sophia Harte on stage.

The music will be provided courtesy of Matthew Nolan and DJ Caroline Gormley who will be on the decks till late.

The theme for this year’s Pride Festival is inclusion in the community.

The weekend will conclude with a wind down barbeque in Odd Mollies/Clarke’s bar on Sunday 13th from 8.30pm onwards.
