Rise in reports of thefts from local shops

THE APPOINTMEN­T of a new business community garda has led to a rise in thefts from shops! - but due to people now reporting them on a more regular basis.

Supt Andrew Watters told the JPC meeting that Garda Ursula Clarke had been appointed to the role and was very active in visiting businesses.

As a result, many were now reporting thefts from their premises with the period up to July 10, compared to the same period last year, showing a rise of 26%, going from 84 to 106.
