Cannabis plantin bedroom

A WOMAN claimed a cannabis plant found in a bedroom of her home was not belonging to her but accepted responsibi­lity for it.

Anne Marie Thornton (37) admitted to buying cannabis seeds in Amsterdam as her husband was suffering from cancer.

The €600 cannabis plant was found by gardai in a bedroom of her home at Moneymore in Drogheda following a search on January 26th, 2016, Drogheda District Court heard.

The defendant pleaded guilty to being in unlawful possession of cannabis under Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. A charge of being in unlawful possession of cannabis for sale or supply under Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act was struck out.

Defence barrister Eleanor Kelly said the defendant purchased cannabis seeds in Amsterdam to help alleviate pain her husband was in.

Judge John Coughlan ordered the defendant to come up with €1,000 as a charitable donation.

If the money is brought to court on December 1st he said he will strike the case out.
