Lip syncing for the Alzheimer’s group
Lip-syncing is to make Drogheda this autumn.
The event will take place at the O’Raghallaighs GAA centre on October 14.
It is being organised as a fund-raiser for the Drogheda branch of the Alzheimer Society which is hoping to provide a new day care centre for the town.
The Lip-Sync craze began in the United States on TV programmes like the Jimmy Fallon Show and has quickly caught on.
It involves contestants miming the words of well-known songs, dressing up as their chosen artist and interpreting the music with their actions. The Drogheda its debut in contest is being run mainly, though not exclusively, with contestants from the pubs in the locality.
There will be a minimum of 20 competitors and, potentially, as many as 32. Judges will be in place to adjudicate on the merits of the contestants, who will be professionally choreographed in advance. And there will be attractive prizes on offer in what will be a novel event in the area.
Each contestant or group of contestants will aim to raise sponsorship of €150 from friends, supporters and work colleagues, and to sell a minimum of 20 tickets each.
Entries are being taken now by CathyAnne Ward at 087 0931723 Cathyanne2009@hotmail.com).
Driving force behind the event, Gary Fagan, said he expected huge interest in it.
‘’It is an idea which has really caught on and we are expecting a big take-up of the entries, ‘’ he said.
Alzheimer branch chairman, Noel Heeney, said they were delighted to be associated with the event and thanked Mr Fagan and Ms Ward for their efforts.
‘’ it sounds so exciting that I am thinking of taking part myself, ‘’ he said. (email
