€8k award in Funtasia chlorine incident
Boys suffered after effects
Two brothers who suffered symtoms of chlorine poisoning after a machine at Funtasia Waterpark malfunctioned have been awarded over €8,000 at Drogheda District Court.
The court heard Joe (12) and Charlie O’Reilly (9) were both swimming in the pool when the incident happened.
Their solicitor said a faulty box was emitting chlorine and both suffered a number of symtoms as a result of this.
He said after getting out of the pool Joe began to cough and was quite ill for two weeks.
The court heard liability was not an issue and the hearing was to determine costs.
Judge John Coughlan awarded €5,000 in essential damages in Joe’s case as well as €100 to cover an emergency visit to A&E and €128 for prescription medication.
He also awarded costs for counsel.
Judge Coughlan awarded €3,000 general damages to Charlie as well as costs for council.
Concluding, Judge Coughlan also noted they boys’ father had not exaggerated the injuries of the children.
