Abandoned vehicles

-

Meath County Council has published its procedure policy for reporting abandoned vehicles.

The issue is a growing problem throughout the county, including in the East Meath area where a number of vehicles have been abandoned in local villages.

Anyone who knows of an abandoned vehicle is advised to contact the customer service team at customerservices@meathcoco. ie or phone 046- 9097000. You should provide details of vehicle registration, colour, make, model, exact location and the period of time that the vehicle has not been moved. You should also provide your name and contact number and the council will arrange to investigate the matter.

If the vehicle is deemed to be abandoned the Council will then follow a procedure of issuing notifications to the registered owner.

This may also include affixing a notice to the vehicle.

Please note that a vehicle must not have moved for a significant period of time to be considered to under this policy. ( up to 6 weeks ). The process from initial inspection to removal can take up to 3 months.
