Unique way to travel to see our Oldbridge gem close up

-

THE Boyne Canal Navigation team created a little bit of history recently when a group of members from Howth Yacht Club made a special visit.

For the first time, the Howth visitors tied up at Fiddle Case Pier in the town and took to their smaller boats and set sail up the Boyne.

They made their way into the canal and through the lock gates and on to Oldbridge House, where they again tied up and made their way into the house.

A total of nine boats arrived from Howth and were led up river by Stephen Early. Afterwards the returned by boat to the Fiddle Case Pier. This was a most successful trip and a good indicator of another possible tourism offering for visitors to Drogheda.

Ongoing maintenance works continue to be carried out along the canal, every second Saturday, by volunteers from the local IWAI branch. if you would like to know more or become involved please visit the website www. boyne.iwai.ie
